This year Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School is hosting a Matariki Creative Community Day offering people the opportunity to gather together to celebrate, learn and share what is unique and special about this time of the year.

A wide variety of workshops will be offered to express creatively the inner and outer aspects of Matariki for both for adults and children and a crèche will also be available for children aged seven years and under, so the whole family can participate.

Crèche

The crèche will be led by a kindergartener and the children in the group will also have an experience of Matariki with a craft activity for them to partake and take home.

Workshop

Two 90 minute workshop sessions - morning and afternoon - will be held. Topics will include:

  • •Harakeke Weaving
  • •Koauau Flute making
  • •Matariki Star Mobiles
  • •Te Reo + Tikanga Maori
  • •Matariki Lore
  • •Poi Making + Candle Dipping and Holder Decoration
  • •Clay Sculpting •Storytelling Tips for Parents
  • •Planting a Kitchen Garden
  • •Wormfarming, Bokashi & Hot Composting
  • •Circus Skills + Archery
  • •Eurythmy (experiencing the stars through movement)
  • •Marionette Making (making one of the seven sisters).

Cafe & Hangi

A café serving hot, nourishing food, drink and homebaking will be available over the lunch period as well as a traditional Hangi to buy at the end of the day.

Art Auction & Craft Stalls

There will be craft stalls and a Silent Art Auction featuring Matariki themed arts and crafts from local artists. Check out these beautiful, inspired works from many talented local artists!

The day concludes with free performances and announcement of the Art Auction winners.

Registration The event takes place at Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School, 5 Helios Place (off Laingholm Dr), Titirangi. Pre-registration is encouraged for the Workshops, Creche and Hangi. Final registration on the day is at 9.30am. The official welcome is at 10am and morning workshops commence at 10.30am.
