Matariki Calendar 2009–2010

Te Papa’s Mäori New Year calendar, Matariki Maramataka, is full of proverbs, körero, and images that celebrate Maori principles of living – in harmony with other people, and with nature.

Around New Zealand, Matariki is a time of great festivity, as well as reflection and planning for the year to come.

This colourful calendar begins with the Mäori New Year in June – when the star formation known as Matariki (the Pleiades) reappears in our skies – and runs through to the end of May 2010. Included are images of Mäori taonga (cultural treasures), and New Zealand’s changing landscape throughout the seasons.
