NZ Maori Tourism Council Operating Values

The principles of kotahitanga, whanaungatanga and manaakitanga are predominant principles that reflect what Matariki means to most of our stakeholders, communities, whanau, hapu and iwi.

There are many stakeholders, Māori and non-Māori, that share an enthusiasm for Matariki as an opportunity to welcome, learn, share and celebrate together through a kaupapa Māori event.

We believe that all those involved in the establishing, running and development of Matariki activities and events should, wherever practicable, have access to information and tools that will enable them to safely and respectfully participate at a local level.

These core principles have been reinforced by our consultation process and are consistent with the approach that the New Zealand Maori Tourism Council generally takes and align with the values that are reflected in the strategic and business planning priorities of New Zealand Maori Tourism Council:

  •       Rangatiratanga
  •       Manaakitanga
  •       Kotahitanga
  •       Kaitiakitanga
  •       Utu

From a values perspective New Zealand Maori Tourism Council is aligned with and proud to support community stakeholders in the development and facilitation of the ongoing development and promotion of Matariki events.
